In the heart of Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) hides a heart breaking story that few know about—the silent genocide.

While the world turns a blind eye, powerful Western nations are benefitting from Congo's rich

minerals like Cobalt, Copper, and Coltan. These minerals are crucial for making our phones, cars, and other gadgets, but their extraction comes at a grave cost to the Congolese people.

To make matters worse, Western countries are indirectly funding neighbouring nations like Rwanda and Uganda, helping them invade Congo to get these valuable minerals. This invasion has led to millions of deaths in Congo, all for the sake of profit.

On February 10th, I joined a protest in central London to raise awareness about this issue. We marched from Oxford Circus to stores like Apple and Microsoft, and even the BBC Broadcasting House, to show how these companies are making money from Congo's minerals while ignoring the suffering of its people. Behind the big numbers—millions displaced, six million lives lost—lies a long history of exploitation.

Back in the colonial era, King Leopold of Belgium caused immense suffering in Congo to get rubber

and ivory, leading to millions of deaths. Today, big companies are continuing this exploitation,

leaving Congolese miners, including children, to work in dangerous conditions for little pay.

The story of Congo's suffering isn't just about one country—its about global injustice and the greed

of powerful nations. We must understand our role in this injustice and work together to change it.

By spreading awareness, speaking out, and being mindful of where our products come from, we can

help end the suffering in Congo and build a fairer world for all.

The tragedy in Congo reminds us of the human cost of unchecked greed. As caring citizens of the

world, its up to us to stand with the Congolese people and demand justice. Together, we can make a difference and create a future where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
